Weekly Photo Challenge – Depth: A Literal and Figurative Interpretation of the Word Found at the Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

Depth.    At 702 feet for its highest point and stretching over 5 miles, the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Ireland is the epitome of “depth.”

Not withstanding their physical height above the Atlantic Ocean or the fact that on a clear day one can see the Aran Islands and Galway Bay in the distance,  the Cliffs of Moher also have the effect of causing its visitors to channel their inner zen.

I don’t know this guy but I love this image because he’s clearly “in his head” in awe of the vista before him. It is no wonder that millions of visitors from around the world make the trek to the west coast of Ireland to admire the beauty of this natural wonder of the world.  On the day that we visited the Cliffs, it was cold, misty and extremely windy.  In fact, there were times when I thought that the next strong gust would take me right over!  You see, at certain areas, there is no barrier keeping those with the most curious minds from dangling over the edge. The views are spectacular so I understand the determination to check out the view from every angle.  It’s a dangerous compulsion and an uncontrollable power the cliffs have over you.  I saw a few daredevils, including the crazy fellow above, do just that and my heart skipped a beat each time.  No thank you!  I stayed well within the zone of safety… well, except for when I posed for this picture.  It had to be done!
