Limerick, Ireland: A City About Faces

If you’ve read my past blog posts, then you’d know that one of my favorite things to do when I go to a new city is to just walk around and explore.  As an outsider looking in, I get a small thrill observing the hustle and bustle of the people scurrying off to work, discovering new restaurants and cuisines, and stumbling upon unique facets of the place.

This year, Limerick was designated the “city of culture” putting on events throughout the year promoting the visual arts, stage performances, film, music, fashion, and craft in Ireland. I didn’t experience any of the scheduled events taking place there, but I did see the city’s culture…a common theme…a city of faces.  Continue reading

Driving in a foreign country can be a prodigious endeavor, especially if you’re like me, and not a very good driver in your own country.  The roads are narrower, the speeds are faster and, depending on your destination, you’ll be driving on the opposite side of the road.  If that isn’t enough to resolve yourself to taking public transportation, the prices for renting a car can be exorbitant if you go unprepared.   Continue reading
